valentine’s pastries

Another, possibly gratuitous (oh, why not) macro series for Valentine’s Day which, however over-the-top and commercial it might be, is certainly a colorful holiday. I’m a fan of red anyway! So, here goes. The pastries here, including a chocolate cupcake and an ice tea cookie, came from Campbell’s Bakery of Jackson MS’s Fondren area.

valentine’s macro 2012

So, last year I did a macro series of Valentine’s Day cupcakes, in dim lighting, placed atop satin sheets. I didn’t want to post a replica of that series this time out, but I did want to do another macro series. I was ready to do another, experimental macro series anyway, given how well the

nola chick, bywater

As people who have paid attention to me for a while should know, I’ve been into multiple exposure photography in the past year, as well as fashion or style photos. I took a few multiple exposure shots last year at NOLA Fashion Week. I had failed, however, to take multiple-exposure shots with an individual model,

glittery macro saint

Even if the Saints are out of the NFL football playoffs, I had to post these. Why? Reason A: They’re fun and sparkly. (I took them at my residence, using gold glitter wrap from a crafts store as a backdrop. The figurine is three inches tall. Reason B: I still love the Saints. There’s always

christmas in canton (2011)

Few towns are as into Christmas as Canton MS, a small town located about 15 minutes north of Jackson’s city limits. Few also get as charming and, in some respects, as arty and eccentric during Christmas as well, even if suburban neighborhoods are rife with light shows now augmented by their own soundtracks, ones that

december in new orleans (2011)

Featured below are photos I took during a four-day stay in New Orleans in December, during which I attended events related to PhotoNOLA. the city’s annual festival of photography, and ran in the Celebration in the Oaks run, etc. I was only going to stay three days originally, but ended up being put up for

fall 2011, jackson

The fall of 2011 was unusually colorful in central Mississippi this year, thanks to dry weather. The proof is in the photos below.

king biscuit blues festival, etc. (2011)

In October 2011, I went with a friend to Helena AR for the King Biscuit Blues Festival, one of the largest blues festivals in America and, I believe, the largest one with any free shows. We stayed in neighboring Clarksdale MS, and went to Clarksdale via a road that passed through the old Stovall Plantation

neshoba county fair 2011

Some of my favorite shots from the past year were ones I took at the Neshoba County Fair, near Philadelphia MS. I will put more into this post later about the background of this event, but suffice it to say that: a) It’s described as “Mississippi’s Giant House Party,” and is known for its colorful

mardi gras indians, infrared (2009)

These were taken on the first and last roll of Kodak HIE infrared black and white, 35mm film that I ever owned. The film is no longer made. It wasn’t quite suited for my camera, a Canon Rebel, and I did not handle it right, nor did I use a red filter as suggested, etc.
